Since 2021, Duurzame Growers has operated as a micro farm managed by farmers dedicated to cultivating quality food for their community.

Our Dream

We have established deep roots in our local community. Our goal is to embrace a simple and peaceful lifestyle while actively making a positive impact on our neighbors and the environment. One of the most meaningful ways we can make this connection is by growing high-quality food, that not only nourishes our community, but also helps to reduce our footprint. By focusing on a shorter supply chain, we are able to bring fresh produce directly from our farm to our consumer's tables, creating a sustainable cycle that benefits everyone involved. Through these efforts, we hope to inspire others to join us in cultivating a healthier and more connected community.

Our

Journey

Welcome to Duurzame! Since launching our market garden business in 2021, we have embraced each year as a valuable learning experience and a stepping stone toward our goals. As young growers, we are committed to taking small, steady steps as we expand our offerings and cultivate a diverse selection of fresh produce. Each season brings new opportunities for growth, and we are excited to share our journey with you.

As we continue to learn and adapt, we aim to enhance our offerings while remaining true to our sustainable practices. These are the “baby” years of Duurzame, and we invite you to join us as we nurture our dreams and develop our garden. Together, we can create a flourishing community that celebrates the beauty of fresh, local produce. Thank you for being a part of our journey!

Our Goals

We are keeping it natural, diverse, and sustainable.  In a changing world, the future is ours, so why wouldn’t we participate in positive change while we have that choice. We want to grow our business on a farm that exercises moderation. By implementing minimum tillage, applying wise soil/water management, and with careful crop planning, we are able to lessen the harmful impacts farming has on the environment around us.

Our Name

What’s Duurzame all about? We value being part of the worldwide small-scale growing community, and we glean inspiration from our ancestral family heritage. Duurzame (ˈdyːr.zaːm) is actually the Dutch word for “sustainability”. The Netherlands is known for being sustainable. With growing practices that aren’t depleting and damaging the small country’s limited resources, the nation has been able to improve their resources while producing efficient, significant, and quality harvests. At Duurzame Growers, we want to run a sustainable company, producing delicious and nutritious produce for you, and your family to enjoy!

Our Style

Small but mighty yields

At our micro-scale farm, we emphasize meticulous care instead of relying on heavy machinery. Our focused growing area enables us to nurture a diverse range of crops on a daily basis, achieving higher yields per square foot than many traditional macro-scale farms. By dedicating attention to each plant, we foster a robust ecosystem that supports variety, demonstrating that quality can indeed surpass quantity. We encourage you to explore the advantages of micro-farming with us.

Our Product

While we are not “certified organic”, we believe in growing our food the way good food is intended to be grown - a way that doesn’t involve chemical fertilizers, pest sprays, or artificial produce ripeners. Our farm is located in the heart of Centre Wellington. The fields, at our present farm, haven’t had non-organic fertilizers or herbicides/pesticides applied for the past 15 years. It is common knowledge, the key to creating great produce starts with healthy soil. At Duurzame, we build our soil by naturally feeding it the necessary microorganisms and by naturally replenishing the soil’s nutrition. In return, we receive healthier plants that resist disease and pests while producing a crop “exploding” with flavour and nutrition.
